How to Make Focaccia

Focaccia, a soft, aromatic Italian flatbread, is easy to make and customizable. Its signature is a pillowy interior and crispy, olive-oil-infused top.

Ingredients (1 large loaf):

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water
  • 3 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil (plus more for topping)
  • Toppings: flaky sea salt, fresh rosemary, garlic slices, cherry tomatoes (halved)

Instructions:

  1. Mix flour, yeast, and salt in a bowl. Add warm water and 2 tbsp olive oil; stir to form a sticky dough. Knead gently 5 mins, then let rise 1 hour until doubled.
  2. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a baking sheet with 1 tbsp olive oil. Press dough onto the sheet, dimpling it with your fingers.
  3. Drizzle top with olive oil, press in toppings, and sprinkle sea salt. Let rise 20 mins.
  4. Bake 20-25 mins until golden. Tear or slice warm—perfect with soups or as a side.
