Focaccia, a soft, aromatic Italian flatbread, is easy to make and customizable. Its signature is a pillowy interior and crispy, olive-oil-infused top.
Ingredients (1 large loaf):
- 3 cups bread flour
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 ¼ cups warm water
- 3 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil (plus more for topping)
- Toppings: flaky sea salt, fresh rosemary, garlic slices, cherry tomatoes (halved)
Instructions:
- Mix flour, yeast, and salt in a bowl. Add warm water and 2 tbsp olive oil; stir to form a sticky dough. Knead gently 5 mins, then let rise 1 hour until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a baking sheet with 1 tbsp olive oil. Press dough onto the sheet, dimpling it with your fingers.
- Drizzle top with olive oil, press in toppings, and sprinkle sea salt. Let rise 20 mins.
- Bake 20-25 mins until golden. Tear or slice warm—perfect with soups or as a side.
