How to Make Scones

Scones are a classic British baked good—crumbly, buttery, and versatile. Here’s a simple recipe for light, flaky scones.

Ingredients (8 scones):

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup cold butter (cubed)
  • ¾ cup heavy cream (plus more for brushing)
  • ½ cup mix-ins: raisins, blueberries, or chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter with a fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in cream until just combined, then fold in mix-ins. Pat dough into a 1-inch thick circle.
  4. Cut into 8 wedges. Place on the sheet, brush tops with cream.
  5. Bake 15-18 mins until golden. Serve warm with jam and clotted cream for a traditional treat.
